Tag Card, May the Hand of A Friend, Female

I don't often put my 'make' right at the top of my blog entry...
Well, by 'don't often' I actually mean never.

BUT...

I fell in love with this Penny Black sentiment as soon as I saw it on eBay.  I'm presuming it's an old stamp design  (never used, so yay!) and I wanted it to capture your attention.

After all...  if it's 'speaking' to me, it may 'speak' to you...

*

Tag You're It! have their new challenge starting today and it's my turn to share my DT creation with you all...
(You did see it, didn't you)?

As much as I love making tags into cards, sometimes it's out of necessity.  I just couldn't see an application for this tag as a standalone attached to a gift, so instead it's been made into a CAS(ish) style card that I think works well as a 'thinking of you' card or just a simple 'note' card maybe?
What do you think?

Supplies Used:

Stamps:
Penny Black '... Near You'
Inkylicious 'Whispering Winds'

Dies:
Papertrey Ink 'Library Card Tag'
Memory Box 'Grape Vine'
Memory Box 'Butterfly Heart'
Impression Obsession 'Tied Line'

Inks:
Tim Holtz Distress Marker 'Tumbled Glass'
Tim Holtz Distress Marker 'Stormy Sky'
Tim Holtz Distress Marker 'Forest Moss'
Tim Holtz Distress Marker 'Peeled Paint'
Memento (Tsukineko) 'Bamboo Leaves'
Ranger 'Perfect Medium' Embossing Ink

Other:
Stampendous 'Detail Black' Embossing Powder
White Sequins
Glossy Black Card
Judikins Color Duster

Here's a quick rundown of how this card was made...

Scribble Distress Inks on to a stamping block, spritz with water and stamp onto watercolour card.
(Repeat until happy with the overall look).
Once dry, run it through a die cutting machine with the tag die AND cut an additional tag out of plain white cardstock.
Glue the two tags together.
Stamp on the grass.
Leave to dry.
Stamp on the sentiment in clear ink, add embossing powder and heat set.
Cut 2 'Tied Line' dies to size, trim off the unwanted bow portion and glue into place.
Cut and attach butterflies (gluing centres only) so that the wings can be folded up a little.
Leave tag to one side to dry.
Cut 2 'Grape Vine' dies and glue into place.  (As so little of this die is actually visible, trim to size and keep the offcuts for another card or to decorate the inside).
Attach tag using foam pads.
Use stippling brushes and ink to add a slight 'grunge' feel to parts of the outer edge of the card.
Add sequins.

You can't tell from this photo, but the Grape Vine die has been cut from glossy black card to mirror the shine from the black embossed text.  I just couldn't get a good image with the shine showing, but I did manage to make full use of the natural daylight that produced some lovely shadows for me!

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been blogging much lately.
Pretty much every cupboard and drawer in my house has had a major tidy and sort through...  and it's taken me months to complete.
This was not the result of a New Year's Resolution (I personally don't believe in those), but the fact that two whole room's have had to have a major overhaul.  One needed decorating and new furniture...  and the other simply had far too much 'stuff' in it.
So craft time has been pretty much non existent as of late...  except for sorting through my craft stuff and trying to tidy that up, too...
And then I decided that if I had come this far I may as well do the entire house...  so no cupboard or drawer has been spared!

Thankfully, I'm pretty much done now.
Except for the huge pile of stuff that needs to go to charity or to be sold.
But that's another story...

I would really encourage you to pop on over to the Tag You're It challenge blog and take a look at what my team mates have come up with based on my design.  I may well be biased...  but they've all knocked my socks off with their talent.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone...
...  and if you have the time, let me know if the stamp on my tag 'spoke' to you, too.

Take care...  and come and play along if you can...

Donna. x

  3. Oh, I've one of those piles too and I can't seem to get up the energy to deal with it... Good luck. As to your card, it is so lovely. I love the understated nature of your elements. That wispy frame is perfect as are the tiny red butterflies.

    1. Hi Maria. I put off my sorting for 5 years (except for trying to keep on top of my craft stuff)... That's why it took me so very, very long to get on top of things and get organised. So believe me when I say 'I hear you'... I still have a few piles of paperwork left to sort through and file - I just need a small break for a few days first!
Thank you for your very kind words re: my card :)

  4. I love this card Donna - and the sentiment on the tag is a real find! Clever you.

Come and do my cupboards and drawers next please - although in fairness I do have regular blitzes. Apart from the craft room, sigh :(

Lovely to see you in the Playground!

    Hugs

    1. It's taken me far too long to sort through my own 'stuff', Di. I may well be scarred for life! I'm actually better at sorting my craft stuff than anything else. A case of necessity when space is always at a premium, I guess...
Yep... I LOVE that sentiment stamp.
Hope all is well with you.
No news here. Things exactly as they were last time we 'spoke'.
      Take care...

  5. This is beautiful Donna! The tag certainly makes a great card and I think it would be suitable for almost any occasion. I often leave a sentiment off a card until an occasion arises where I can use it and then all I have to do is add a suitable sentiment. Or, I will put a sentiment on that would be suitable for almost any occasion, like, 'Just for you', 'Thinking of you', 'Best Wishes' . . . and so on. I also give a lot of my cards away to people so that they can send handmade cards to others, so I like to add sentiments that they can use for any occasion. Anyway, I've 'waffled' long enough, thanks for the details on how you made this. Have a lovely weekend my friend! Hazel xx

    1. My brain works so differently to yours, Hazel! My card has to be 'finished' before I can put it away... Plus I'm a 'sentiment stamper worrier' - you know, the type who fusses over the sentiment being stamped 'just so'. Lack of practice, I guess. But I do have a Misti now. Not used yet, though!
It's good to hear what you like to do with your cards when they are finished. Your friend's must love you :)
      Have a lovely weekend. x

We all have different ideas when it comes to CAS. I think mine often dance around the edges with a CAS 'feel' to them rather than being true CAS creations.
That's why I'm such a fan of your work. You inspire me to do better in terms of incorporating new techniques that don't compromise on the look I am going for. In short, YOU ROCK! Thanks for sharing your creativity :)

  19. Donna, this gorgeous, heart-warming tag/card warrants star billing at the top of your blog. From the sentiment (what a fabulous find!), to your showcase of it with the framing, the 'whispering winds', the wee butterflies and the leaves, this is a work of art! Can you tell that I LOVE x LOVE this! Thank you for the inspiration that encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone in creating my tag/card! Your cleaning and tidying is giving me ideas...but I'm going to stall until spring break. Fortunately, my crafting zone is postage-stamp sized, so it's easy to clean, although I do have some 'not used' stuff that needs to be stashed out-of-sight. And the wardrobe is calling for a purge, too! Wishing you a fabulous Sunday!
