Through The Window, Notelet Card, Brickwork

Do any of you recognise this scene peeking through the window?

Well done if you do...
It was also used on one of the larger sentiment tags I made earlier on this year...

I wonder if you can figure out why this stamped image was kept to one side?

Yep, you guessed it.  I did a craft 'boo boo'...
...  and I don't know about you but most of my craft 'boo boo' moments come right at the end of my craft make.

In the spirit of saving the environment and/or my sanity after spending my time on this 'mistake', I decided that the best thing to do was to keep it to one side for a few months, moved on to some other projects and then revisit it.
It's amazing what a pair of fresh eyes and some perspective can do when salvaging a project that's gone wrong.

So...

The part of the image that was still usable was cut to fit into this window frame that's been layered up by gluing three die cuts together.  (The tiny inked vellum butterfly and dragonfly were already attached from the last project, but this time the dragonfly needed to be a darker brown so I carefully removed and replaced it).
Then it was simply a case of adding a branch at an angle (also layered up for strength/durability), mounting on to a card front that's been stamped with a brick image and then heat embossing using Distress ink and powder.
One final butterfly as a finishing touch and I was done.

I made that sound simple, didn't I?

Please, Please...  If you can DO NOT throw your 'mistakes' straight into the bin.  Put them to one side (out of sight), move on to something else and just give it some time.  Then have a look and see what's salvageable.
I won't mention names, but I know of someone who throws her watercolour backgrounds out if they don't look 'right'.  She also throws things away because the paint splatters don't go where she wants them to.
What I'm saying is just because it doesn't work for one project doesn't mean it can't work for another.  If nothing else, I'm sure they would have made beautiful die cut butterflies...

Summer Garden

Week #366  'The Great Outdoors'

Addicted to Stamps and More

I still have plenty of half done projects I'm working through right now.   I wonder if you have any hidden away that you intend to get back to one day?

Enjoy the rest of your day...
...  or your evening.

Donna.

  1. Hi Donna. Fantastic design with elements that all work perfectly together. It's really beautiful. Covering up "boo-boos" is pretty common place for me. You did a wonderful job and no one would have known if you hadn't said anything --- job well done! I frequently start pieces that don't end up working for my current design. I have a couple of drawers of bits that I hold on to "just in case" they will work for something else. Sometimes they end up helping to make a quick card since some of the work is done.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful card with us at CAS Mix Up! xx

Not sure if you spotted my question about whether or not CAL is really allowed on CAS Mix Up!?
Glad I'm not the only one with half done designs!
I only confessed to my 'boo boo' as I don't want anyone throwing away perfectly usable work - I know only too well how much of ourselves we invest in our projects and it seems such a shame to hear stories of stuff going straight in the bin.
      Enjoy your day/evening, Loll. X

  2. Oops ... meant to say that CAL is good with us as long as there's not too many layers that all have colour or pattern. xx

CAL stands for Clean And Layered. (Basically CAS, but with a layer added in to the mix).
      Take care... X

I was doing so well last time around... until I decided to die cut a cloud out of the actual scene and then offset it against the cloud window I had created. Realised straight away it was a 'boo boo'.
Hope you're having a good week...

  5. The girl did good with the previous "boo boo"! Now it's transformed into a lovely card.

I often cover my mistakes with punched out/die cut items. You can usually work around it somehow, but I agree, time and a new perspective help!

Have you made any progress towards sorting/tidying your craft area? I remember you saying a few months ago that it needed doing, but we all know that life has a habit of getting in the way at times!

  7. It looks absolutely beautiful Donna and well done slavaging from a previous boo boo. I hate throwing anything away even if it's not right and I do exactly what you did. The trouble is I'm getting my cabin filled up with boxes of rejects and snippets. Barbxx

    1. If I were in your shoes I think I would set myself a goal of just grabbing a handful of 'rejects' each month and then working with them to use them up. Otherwise they'll be no room left for you in your craft cabin!!!
Believe me, I know it's easier said than done...
My half done projects keep being ignored as new ideas come along... so I'm trying to remedy that at the moment, knuckle down and get some things finished.

    1. I love that you called this a 'rescued' project :) So much so that I will endeavour to use this phrase next time I share a 'boo boo' card online.
      Thank you, Jill :)

  15. Love cards that use those window dies! Beautiful little scene outside the window, and I love the way you used just a subtle bit of the brick behind the window. Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Mix Up.

I love aperture style cards... The fact that the aperture's a window just makes it easier to form an idea sometimes. Glad you like the brick work. I'm so bad at stashing my stamps away and not using them. That's why I like this challenge. It makes you look for things to add texture and dimension - CAS style, of course :)
