The Unfolding (Penny Black), Easel Backed Card, Acetate Layer

I'm showing you something very different for me today.
Do you want to see it?
Well, here goes nothing...

That's a lot of colour for lil' old me, isn't it?
Did you think you'd gone to somebody else's blog by mistake?

Here's the card from a different angle...

And just look at what I've done with the back...

I stumbled across this 'find' (Sizzix/Holtz 'Small Easel') and just knew that I had to have one...  and I plan to have a lot of fun using it this year - just so you know!

Now...  if you were on FB yesterday you may have noticed just how 'over the top' happy I was to find out that Penny Black had released some more Brushstroke stamps to their range.
When I tell you that this was my first ever go with a Brushstroke stamp you'll understand why I was so elated.
You do understand, don't you?

I mean seriously, I am not a stamper and I know that this card isn't perfect...
but when my husband saw it for the first time he thought I'd painted it!
(I wish.  I'm no artist, either)!

Now if this style of stamp can make me look far more talented than I actually am then it's a no-brainer for me.
More Penny Black Brushstroke stamps coming my way.  And they are natured themed to boot.
Woo hoo!!!
(You did cotton on to the fact that virtually everything I make is nature themed, didn't you)?

So that's me very, very happy...
And I may as well spend my pennies on that, hadn't I?

As I'm not sure about just how much detail you can actually see in the photo, I'll do a very brief 'How To'...

Stamp image using MISTI (or similar).
Ink around edges.
Cover flower stamped image with scrap paper, then wet hands and 'clap' over inked edges.
Blot to dry and 'lift' some ink.
When dry, use a score board and 'draw on' some random, broken lines.
Cut a piece of acetate to size, emboss it and attach with screw brads.
Cut a bigger piece of brown card to size, emboss it, then add some gilding wax.
Glue acetate fronted image to card back.
Cut a larger green piece of card to size, slightly sand it and distress the edges.
Cut a slightly larger white piece of card to size and distress the edges.
Glue all layers into place.
Add cut, glued and stacked word die cuts.

Now I glued several pieces of card together to create a sturdy base for all of this - which is why I needed to use the easel.

Supplies Used:

Stamp:
Penny Black 'The Unfolding'

Tsukineko/Memento Inks:
Lady Bug
Rich Cocoa
Bamboo Leaves
Pistachio
Stormy Sky
Broken China

Embossing Folders:
Sheena Douglass 'Snowfall'
Sizzix/Holtz Texture Fades 'Woodgrain'

Dies:
Memory Box (Sketchbook) 'Create Art'
Sizzix/Holtz 'Small Easel'

Other:
Pebeo Giling Wax -  Silver
Screw Brads
Acetate

Challenges I'm Entering...

(Your Favourite Flower and Why)
My favourite flower is the Magnolia - a stunningly beautiful flower.  Mine flowers right on the cusp of Spring...  which makes me happy as I hate Winter!!!

I may look super duper inactive online right now, but I have been busy beavering away.
Honestly I have!

Have a good week...

    1. Lol... I just need the world to stop spinning for a few days whilst I catch up with everything. I always feel like I'm chasing my tail trying to keep on top of everyone's blogs. I get to the point where I think I have, only to realise that I haven't!
Re: these stamps. My theory is that if I can do them then anyone can.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Mac.
      Take care. x

  3. Donna it is well deserving of that easel - a wonderful die! You will find fun spots for that! Your stamping with that P.B. is worth a real close-up and I love the watery=bubbly acetate, too! Good on you, my friend!

    1. Thank you, Michele. I won't be displaying this at home, but maybe on my craft stall. First proper one is in March. Not my thing at all, but 'good medicine'... hopefully.
I bought the easel die for when I need to make something sturdy. Next project with it will be a window scene.
      Enjoy your week. X

    1. Thank you so much, Pam.
Ideally, I want any PB stamps I buy to play nicely with my dies. I want to be able to mix and match them seamlessly so that they look like they were designed to go together. After all, I've spent a small fortune on them (but not as much as you)! Ha, ha. X

  5. I love your card Donna and that stamp is beautiful. I really enjoyed reading how you made it and all the techniques you used. I think I might have to hunt out Tim's small easel. It looks really useful.

I look forward to seeing the new PB stamps that you will no doubt be buying and what you come up with. Barbxx

    1. Thanks again, Barb.
Using spray adhesive to sandwich two bits of card together meant that this easel backing could be white - just like the card. I like the fact that you can still write on the back if you want to.
Enjoy your week. I'll catch up with you tomorrow. X

    1. That's the beauty of this style stamp, isn't it? The fact that it looks painted, yet it's not. It was seeing your very pretty version of this card last year that finally made up my mind to take the plunge.
Sleep well, my friend. Must be your bedtime soon. X
PS. Are you planning to hunt down an easel die, too?!!

  11. WOW - that's a stunningly lovely card Donna. SOOO pretty. I have a precision stamping tool coming my way in a couple of months, and one of the things I want to use it for is this wonderful watercolour effect.

    1. Me, too! I'm saving my MISTI for clean stamping, i.e. sentiments only once I have this new toy. Just the fact that it can be cleaned so easily makes it worth the investment for me.
I got guilted into sorting out this post. Not by you!
Forgot to ask, one of your recent posts has a 'nature' word stamp on it. Which set is it from, please?
      Glad you like my card.

These Penny Black brushstroke stamps really are quite beautiful images to play with. I actually mentioned them to Tracy (Dies To Die For) this morning.
I see you design for her... and lots of others, too.

  14. Well done with this stamp, Donna! I love the stamp, I have it too but have been a bit intimidated to use it, I think I've blogged only one card with it and that's it although I've had it for a year or so. Yours turned out fantastic, I love the bg too!

    1. Oh, Nonni... I hear you.
I've had this stamp for a while and actually stamped it way back in September/October last year. Then I just put it to one side as I didn't have a clue what to do with it once I'd stamped and attached it to the background.
I think that's the trouble with trying something new. It doesn't come easy for me. And now I'm back in that exact same place again... I just stamped another PB image this afternoon and haven't a clue what to do with it yet!!!
Oh well. I'll get there eventually! X

  17. WOW! Breath-taken-away with your gorgeous card! I've seen these stamps a couple times (I think) but shied away, knowing they would be well beyond my skill levels! You, however, have mastered them, creating a card that is absolutely magical! The easel: very cool! Looking forward to seeing more of these works-of-art from you!

    1. If you own a stamping tool (i.e. a MISTI), some Memento Markers (or similar) and can colour in, these are far less intimidating than they actually look.
My problem is trying to figure out what to do with the image once I've finished the stamping/colouring part.
Should get easier with time, I guess!
      Hugs to you...
