Acetate Tag, Christmas 'Drop' Ornament, Female

It's time for another challenge at Tag You're It, and this time it's Tracey's turn to inspire us all...
But before you read on and see her tag for this challenge, I have something I'm going to tell you.

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE red, green and white/near white colour combinations (throw in brown as well and I'm in colour heaven), so it would have been so easy for me to just go with those colours and have a lovely time...  but every once in a while a girl needs to 'dip her toe' in other directions.

So I've come up with a design that's very...   'rustic' looking, shall we say?

I would say 'not my usual style', but as pretty much everything I make is still an experiment of some kind I'm not really sure I have a style as yet!!!

Anyhow...  Here's my tag...

Before you say anything, I am aware that the stamping on the word 'Blessings' is not even throughout...  the 'E' is a little bit squiffy at the bottom and the 'GS' has obviously had more pressure applied to it than the rest...
Normally I would have discarded this straight away, stamping and restamping if needs be...
But do you know what?
I decided that it didn't matter as it was all still perfectly readable and somehow suited the 'feel' of this tag.  Do you think I'm crazy?

Now, just take a look at Tracey's design (below).
Those beautiful, vibrant colours, the classic ornament shape with the word 'joy', the holly, bells tied on with thread...
My tag looks nothing like that, I know...
But it should be obvious (I hope) which parts I chose to keep true to Tracey's design...  and if it isn't I shall go find a quiet corner to sit in and have a good cry!

Dies used:
Memory Box 'Drop Ornament'
Papertrey Ink 'Wet Paint Holiday Die'
Impression Obsession 'Twig Wreath Die Set'
Lifestyle Crafts 'Basket'  (cut down portion of the handle has the word 'Blessings' stamped onto it)

Other:
Stampin' Up 'Ornament' Punch
Papertrey Ink 'Wet Paint Holiday Stamp Set'
Corrugated Card (Recycled Packaging)
Texture Paste
Twine
Bell

For those of you wondering where you are supposed to write anything on this tag, I have punched out a second 'ornament' shape from Kraft card and stuck it on the back...  although truth be told I'm not sure as yet if I'm going to use this as a tag or put it to one side and use it as the main focus on a Christmas card.

You may be aware that Tracey has been running her

This tag was also made to tie into that challenge (Day 19 of the event)...

... and as I've used snippets of green, black and silver...  and corrugated Kraft and acetate offcuts... I'm also linking this to my friends over at

(remaining open until 22/11/2015)
As ink has only been used for stamping I'm not sure this one counts as Mixed Media?

If you can, come and join us...

...  we would love to see you stop by :)

I have a very good eye for detail... so I figured I may as well say it because others out there will notice just as much as I do!!!
Not the blessing it's cracked up to be at times!
Glad you like the tag. Always dubious when sharing my ideas!

  5. Hi Donna! What a fabulous tag - and I do think it would be perfect on a card. That way it lives on a bit longer over the festivities :)

And I certainly wouldn't have noticed the stamping you pointed out - although, I would have noticed if I'd done it. Tells me we're both our own worst critics :)

Needless to say, hubby doesn't like it :(
I've had to learn to ignore him and my daughter and post my 'creations' anyway... and gauge if they are any good or not based on people like you who are kind enough to comment.
Is your tag event a yearly affair or was this a one off?

  9. Wow Donna, this is just stunning! I pinned this incredible ornament immediately, wow! I have never seen such an original design like this, the contrast between the clear acetate and the woodsy ornament on top is just incredible! The texture is amazing too, that looks like real tree bark! Fantastic!! Oh and just so you know, texture paste counts as a mixed media product, so you are fine in that regard.

  10. I think your ornament is stunning Donna, I didn't even notice that the stamping wasn't perfect, it is stunning and I love how you used the clear medium with the kraft attached and the word 'Christmas' is so bold and beautiful You have no reason to cry over this one, it is truly beautiful and would be wonderful gracing a tree or as a focal point on a card - I just love it and will definitely be giving this idea a try!

This is the one and only time I haven't fretted over the stamping not being perfect. It's strange that it seems to work, isn't it?
Would love to see how yours turns out :)
      Take care. X

  16. Love your tag using the acetate! Stamping on handmade items does not have to be perfect....that adds to the authenticity of being handcrafted. At least that's what my DH tells me.

  17. I love your rustic tag which will look lovely hanging from a C tree. We are to hard on ourselves and sometimes we need to let go and not notice an imperfection, because someone else probably won't see it.

I think you are right... many of us 'craft' makers strive for perfection, but sometimes it just isn't needed.
Lovely to hear from you :)

  18. This is a beautiful and inventive Christmas ornament/tag! I like it better as an ornament, so I'm going to call it that! Love the contrast of the rustic kraft against the more contemporary look of the acetate--great design! Please don't go have a cry, because this is fantastic and certainly IS mixed media! And I would have never thought twice about the Blessings being "off"--looks perfectly fine to me!

Thank you for joining our It's Ornamental challenge at Anything But Cute! Hugs!

  19. Donna, your tag is absolutely gorgeous! I see only a wonderful rustic creation, flexible enough to stand on its own or be added to a card, perfectly embellished and stamped! An innovative, inventive take on Tracey's inspiration and equally as beautiful! Love it...as in LOVE it!
