Baby Card, Panda on Vine, New Arrival

When is a CAS card not a CAS card?
Well...  When it looks like this, of course!

I wonder who agrees with that statement?  I would certainly say that this card has a CAS 'feel' to it...  It has that all important 'white space' after all.  But then...  I did add an extra layer, a smidge of 'paper piecing', white twine as well as Dew Drops...  Do you get my point?

Perhaps this best fits Loll and Bonnie's CAS/Mixed Media Challenge style?  (If you don't know what I'm talking about then all I can say is 'where have you been')?  I know others use this style, too...  but kudos for them for coining the phrase.  Or was it already coined?  If so, I hadn't come across it...

Or maybe this best fits a CAS with layers category?  (Another challenge blog ran this for a while...  Not sure if they are on a break or whether they closed that challenge down).

Or maybe I should simply rephrase the question and ask, 'when does CAS stop being CAS'?

These are just my thoughts on the topic.  Feel free to let me know yours...  if you want to, obviously!

Anyway...  enough rambling...

Here's the inside...

Now I don't always decorate the inside of my cards...  but sometimes I just like to carry over the design a little.

  3. I've seen so many explanations of CAS, that I still don't know, it seems to be different for everybody?!! Personally, I would class this as CAS, because it has a very 'airy' feel to it with all that lovely white, but, of course that is just my OH. Whatever you class it as, it's . . . stunning!! I also love what you have done inside! Have a wonderful week my sweet friend! Hazel xx

    1. Hello Hazel :)
      How long 'til your holiday?
You've hit the nail on the head, my friend. So, so many variations on what CAS means, is, can or cannot be. I personally think it could do with some sub category definition. CAS 'max' for the CAS purists out there, CAS with layers, Mixed Media CAS... BUT even then I still think the overlap would cause issues!!!
      But what do I know!!!
      Take care :)

    1. Thank you, Sherrie.
I wasn't sure if this fits CASology's definition of CAS or not, but it looked like I could see the odd layered piece from your DT so I gave it a go anyways :)

  5. Donna such a sweet card. By true definitely a CAS card has lots of white space, minimal layers and not too much activity going on--loud colours and too many patterns. CAL is clean and layered, layers but still a clean look. That is what I would classify this as. Is there truly a right and wrong in card making--no way says me. Do what makes you happy! Thank you for sharing with us at CASology this week!

    1. Thank you for not sitting on the fence on this one, Tracey. You'll notice from my comments that CAS seems to be a bit of a mystery...
I'm a CAS 'ish' girl at heart, I think... but not a CAS purist!
PS. Where does CASology sit on CAL? Does it fit in with your criteria or is this more of a CAS purist challenge only?

This is my second card using the hanging panda. Layout's not that different from last time... just streamlined, I guess.
'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' I believe's the phrase!!!
Did the postman make you a happy lady today?

  8. CAS or not, it's a wonderful card! Instead of clean and simple, maybe it's clean and layered (CAL). I can never resist dimension on my cards so that's my style.

  10. Whether or not it's strictly CAS is open to interpretation, but it certainly has a FRESH CAS feel about it and there is plenty of white space. Personally I LOVE IT.

I'm fairly sure Crafter's Companion have ditched this little guy... unless you buy their CD Rom version. I think that was still available last time I checked.
It always surprises me how little cuties like this don't make the cut and stay as part of a main selling line.
Just goes to show what I know!

  12. People's idea of CAS certainly does vary. I make mainly CAS cards and I can totally see this as a CAS design! Love the panda image, its so very sweet and really pops against all the white background. And the pop of rust brown with the leaf die-cut is such a cool idea. I love this card and I'm so glad you shared it with us at TIME OUT!!

  16. Deciding when CAS stops being CAS isn't clear cut and very much dependant on one's view. If you do get a definitive answer please share it, I for one could do with the guidance! Thanks for joining us at Country View Challenges this month.

    1. Only one person gave a very definite answer as opposed to sharing their opinion. If you check through my comments and look out for the name Tracey McNeely you'll see what she states. Not sure if that'll help you, but at least it's something!
