Baby Card (Keepsake), Clothes Line, Female

I haven't made a card like this in a long time...
and to be honest I am in no hurry to do it again.
No hurry whatsoever...

It started off simply enough...  A request for a baby card that would be kept for a very long time.  And... well...

You see baby cards aren't really something I have ever made before so I had to do a spot of online shopping.
See my washing line?
Beautiful stamp.  I love it.
And those super cute tiny buttons that I glued on?  They were bought especially for this project too, you know!
But...

What can you do with a clothes line/washing line to stop it from simply floating in mid air that doesn't look plain ugly AND doesn't detract from the focal image of the tiny baby clothes on the line?
(I thought about that one for quite a while...)
I did have to wait for the stamp to arrive, you know!

FINALLY, I made a decision I thought I was happy with.
My 'Never Before Used Schtuff' Poppystamps frame paired with my much loved birch tree stencil.

It went downhill from there...

I could continue to elaborate in excruciating detail...  (maybe then you would feel my pain?)...  but suffice it to say that EVERY SINGLE TIME I thought I was finished and finally happy with this card I would look at it the following day and realise that there was something still not quite right with it.

This was a soul destroying card to make if ever there was one...

So I've added bits and I've taken bits away... and I've stamped bits and I've taken them away...  and I've given up all pretence of this being CAS in any form whatsoever...
And I've painstakingly cut out and glued on each individual peg for added dimension as it didn't look right without me doing that...   and I've smooshed on Gesso and lifted up edges to distress them as it looked too neat...

Are you getting my point yet?
Please tell me you understand my pain.  Seriously please.
I can't be the only one who lacks enough common sense to simply call it a day and start over, can I?
Anybody?
Please?

I really hated this card at one point...
Now it's been salvaged from 'I'm seriously contemplating throwing you straight in the bin' to 'I like parts of it but I'm still not sure'.

Maybe one day I'll revisit it with a CAS makeover!

This is my second baby card out of three that I will be posting online.
I made it for mum rather than baby.  Kind of obvious, hey?

  1. Oh yeah, sure Donna . . . we've all been there, and we feel your pain. I was there with you I think . . . and I managed to salvage the card . . . but not before I had seriously considered lobbing it out of the window, never mind the bin!

I may have mentioned this to you before, but I always try and console myself with a 'at least if I make this again it will be quicker next time'. This one just took a lot of effort to come together... But at least it's not just me!
      Have a lovely week. X

  4. Well, it might have been a soul destroying card for you to make Donna my sweet friend, But, seriously, WOW! All those fabulous little details look fiddly, but beautiful. You have created a miniature work of art that I am sure that whoever requested it will be over the moon, not to mention the recipient! Have a wonderful week! Hazel xx

  7. I can see all the hard work you put into this Donna. Lots of wonderful elements that I imagine were so picky to work with. Too bad you are not over-the-top excited after all your hard work. Have been there many times myself. I'm stubborn, so sometimes I just can't let a project go. Once it gets to the point of no fun, I have to let it go ... for my own sanity.

No matter how you feel about your card, the recipient is going to love it. That clothesline and tiny baby clothes are so adorable. xx

I think that if I hadn't been on a strict time frame I might well have abandoned this into my 'half done, need some time before I come back to it to see what I can do' pile. I have several such projects like that, all waiting patiently for me.
I guess we probably all do...
It's rare for me to be really please with how a card turns out... but it happens sometimes!
      Thanks for your kind words...

  9. I;ve been there too. There is so much that I made and ended up in the bin. BUt I guess we are all too hard on ourselves. I think your card is a gem. You sure have a unique style and a great eye for details. Do what you like and what suits you best. There is never a MUST; creating must be fun and a chance to relax. You have enough on your plate so please remember that it's about having fun...X

I try to salvage what I can! From the comments I've read it seems we are all similarly made in some ways. Maybe it's part of the creative process!!!

  10. Ohhhhh, I have been in the same place. I think I have actually threatened a card or two that if they don't start to cooperate they were being tossed into the fireplace!! Lol. It did come out fabulous though! Great job!

Thanks for playing along with our "no designer paper" challenge.

    Have a great day,
