Flowers on String, UpCycling, Acetate

A new challenge starts today at what I now like to unofficially call 'Tag You're It' Friday.
(I can't help it.  I like the way it sounds).

My design for this challenge started off with every intention of being quite true to our Featured Artist's inspiration tag...  but then it digressed into something quite different.

Let me show you my tag...

...  and at a different angle...

...  and the tag created just for us by Michele Ferguson.

The similarities are there...

I focused on those pretty blue flowers, decided to upcycle some cardboard packaging from my Gorjuss patterned papers collection to create more flowers (there are two kinds on Michele's tag) and then stretched out my design on to a piece of string instead of keeping it quite compact on the leaves.
Don't ask me why.
(I may have mentioned this before, but my brain often takes 'interesting' detours when I'm crafting)!
I will say that the original intention was to use a branch in place of the leaves, but I decided against that as I felt the design would get too busy.
So string it was!
And I have used two tags (just like Michele) - it's just that one was cut and embossed from acetate before being partially glued into place over the other one.

I even managed to include dark centres on my flowers - just like the dark centres on Michele's blue flowers.
So all in all I didn't digress that far off track...  although I did sneak in one final sparkly touch before gluing everything into place!

Here's a close up so you can see it...

  1. This is just stunning - I think I'd have to frame this tag if it was given to me. The sparkle all over it is so pretty and I love the vivid blue against the stark white. Gorgeous! Thanks for playing along at CAS-ual Fridays!

    1. Thank you, Claire. Part of the illusion is from the embossed acetate - it compliments the Stickles glue really well.
Thank you for your kind words...

  2. Stunning Donna my friend! LOVE the Stickles, it does look like sugar (I was trying to work out what it was in the picture, before I read the list of supplies). Well done you for upcycling some packaging - I do that very often, it's a shame to throw all that pretty packaging away - I love your take on Michele's tag! My projects also, very often, take a turn in another direction (sometimes for the worse, I must admit), but sometimes, I am more pleased with what I end up with, than what I had imagined I'd do! Have a wonderful weekend my friend! Hazel xx

  11. So creative to "stretch" out your design with string ... very beautiful. Love the acetate layer. I never think to do that and it looks so beautiful with the Stickles. Definitely need to give that a try. xx

    1. Thank you, Loll.
I was surprised at how well they went together - especially given the fact that my choice of Stickles doesn't look very attractive in the bottle (trust me, if you have this colour you will know what I mean)! I think that having some flowers above and some below the acetate just adds to the whole illusion - I balanced the ones above on dew drops when messing around and deciding what would go where, etc!
      Have a good Sunday :)
