I have a subtle, muted tag to share with you as my 5th project for the
2018 Christmas release...
... and if you peek bottom right along the torn edge you'll see that this effect has only been made possible with the use of a vellum layer...
Can you see that bright red peeking through from behind?
If you are familiar with this new release you may well already know that there is only one mitten... so yes, I have done what some might believe to be the unthinkable by using the wrong side of the 'cut out'...
The question is, 'how'?
After all, we both know that the wrong side of a cut out has etch marks from the cutting plate that show up... not to mention that not so flat edge you get!
My tricks to combat this are as follows:
1. Using thin paper, add a layer or two to the cutting plate prior to cutting out the die you wish to use the wrong side of.
2. Once the die cutting has been done, sandwich 'cut outs' between a few layers of thin paper and roll back through your die cutting machine.
I am fully aware that the stitching holes on the 'wrong side' are not as pronounced, but for this style - (where the mitten is behind and therefore further away) I think it works well.
However, if this bothers you... you can make more pronounced holes by using a pokey tool!

Cut out 'Tagged', then stamp 'Christmas Berries' using a Stamp Positioner and the following Tsukineko/Memento Markers:
Expresso Truffle
Lady Bug
Love Letter
Rhubarb Stalk
Take a piece of vellum and carefully tear off a strip at the bottom to create a rough edge.
Align the rough edge so that it sits just inside the cutting blade of 'Tagged' and roll through the machine to create a second tag shape.
Then, using Ranger Archival (Watering Can), stamp on the words from the Christmas Sentiments set... and then use the ink pad to colour the hole reinforcer for the tags.
To make the mittens, gently blend the following Tim Holtz/Distress colours together for the glove:
Broken China
Stormy Sky
... and for the cuff:
Pumice Stone
Hickory Smoke
Iced Spruce
Milled Lavender
Once dry, add a layer of Ranger/Distress Collage Medium - Crazing to the cuffs to create a little texture.
Secure the mittens from the back with a piece of twine, then decorate with die cuts from Christmassy and Mitten Stocking - adding just a touch of Ranger/Stickles (Picket Fence) before gluing into place.
Also add a touch of Stickles (Picket Fence) to the hole reinforcer.
Assemble the tag with the vellum layer on top and glue the hole reinforcer into place.
Now thread the twine attaching the mittens through the hole and glue the mittens into position.
A few more drops of Stickles dotted around and a few gems for decoration and this tag is finished!

I hope the use of a vellum layer has inspired you.
It's a very easy way to add the colour you want without the intensity that you don't really need.
